HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team returns to the California desert for the Big West Championship which runs Sunday, April 28 through Tuesday, April 30 at the La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta, Calif. The Rainbow Warriors are seeded sixth in the nine-team tournament and will be paired in the first round with CSUN and UC Davis. UH's tee times are scheduled for 10:50 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. PT. Two-time defending champion Long Beach State is the top seed and highest ranked team in the field at No. 55 followed by Cal State Fullerton (#87), Cal Poly (#112), CSUN (#117), UC Davis (#123), Hawai'i (#160), UC Irvine (#169), UC Santa Barbara (#189), and UC Riverside (#253). The tournament will be played at the 7,056 -yard, par-72 course for the fourth consecutive year. UH finished sixth at last year's championship.

The Rainbow Warriors will send a contingent of Blaze Akana, Kolbe Irei, Josh Hayashida, Dane Watanabe, Tyler Ogawa, and alternate Isaiah Kanno. Akana placed 11th last year with an even par 216 total that included a final round 5-under 67. Hayashida finished in a tie for 33rd at 11-over 227.   UH's best finish at the Big West Championship was fifth in 2019 when the 'Bows hosted the event at the Wailua Golf Course in Līhu'e, Kaua'i.   The Big West champion earns an automatic berth in the 2024 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships, and the individual medalist also earns his place in the regional field if he is not a member of the winning team.
