Filming has officially begun on the live-action film adaptation of DreamWorks Animation’s “How To Train Your Dragon”.

Oscar nominated filmmaker Dean DeBlois, who wrote and directed the original trilogy, is handling this new interpretation. He has posted a photo of himself on the set holding a clapperboard as shooting gets underway.

Based on the books by Cressida Cowell, the original ‘Dragon’ film takes place in the mythical Viking village of Berk and follows the adventures of a misfit teen named Hiccup who befriends an injured dragon he calls Toothless.

He soon discovers there may be more to the creatures than he or his family assumed. The trilogy has generated more than $1.6 billion worldwide at the box-office along with three spin-off TV series.

Marc Platt will produce the new film which marks the first Dreamworks animated feature to make the jump to live-action form, with more likely to follow if it’s a success.

Gerard Butler will reprise his role of Stoick, Hiccup’s father, in the live-action project. He’s joined by Mason Thames as Hiccup, Nico Parker as Astrid, and Nick Frost as Gobber the Belch.

“How To Train Your Dragon” is set for a June 13th 2025 release.
