As many Latter-day Saints celebrate Valentine’s Day, President Russell M. Nelson shared a heartwarming reminder about one of the most powerful kinds of love.

He shared on his social media platforms the following message:

On Valentine’s Day, people the world over celebrate love. But what does the word “love” really mean? Is it about flowers, chocolate, and gifts? Certainly, at times, it can be. But the second great commandment teaches of a different kind of love—that of actively loving our neighbor.

Giving help to others—making a conscientious effort to care about others as much as or more than we care about ourselves—is our joy. Especially, I might add, when it is not convenient and when it takes us out of our comfort zone. Living that second great commandment is the key to becoming a true disciple of Jesus Christ.

Of course, we must remember that the second great commandment follows an even greater commandment—which is the commandment to first love God.

We often see people in the world today ignore the first commandment. And yet, when we obey the first commandment, we are much better equipped to keep the second commandment.

It has been my privilege to witness the impact of many humanitarian efforts around the world made by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Today, may we use this holiday dedicated to love as a reminder to recommit to loving our neighbor—whether they live in the house next door or across the globe.

Other Apostles shared their feelings on the day. Keep scrolling to enjoy their posts!

Heart Attacked!

Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf had his door decorated with paper hearts. He said:

I recently received these heartwarming notes from the children and the youth in my grandson’s ward. Harriet and I loved reading each one.

This gesture of love reminds me this Valentine’s Day of the kind of love that Jesus Christ has for children. “Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for such is the kingdom of God” (Mark 10:14).

God loves each of us—His children. Let us remember today—and every day—to love one another the way our Heavenly Father and His Son love us.

The Most Important Message

Elder Patrick Kearon, the newly called Apostle, shared a simple testimony, saying:

The most important message any of us could receive is a reminder of who we are and how we are loved by our Eternal Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.
