Exclusive - Two Midfielders, One Goalkeeper, One Defender Tops Peseiro's List Of New Super Eagles Players
The coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro has five players in his list as possible addition to the team following their second place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Peseiro led the Super Eagles to the final of the tournament where they were beaten 1-2 by the host Cote d’Ivoire. Despite losing the final he surpassed the target set for him by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for a new deal by going past the semi final.
Although there are doubts over his continual stay as coach with Algeria keen on having him as a replacement for sacked coach Djamel Belmadi, Peseiro isn’t leaving the Super Eagles and will take up the option of extending his stay with the team when his current deal expires at the end of the month.
Not even the prospect of earning €208,000 a month as salary swayed him and he is already focused on the next chapter with the Nigerian team, starting from the game against Argentina during the international window in March.
As a matter of fact a source close to the coach revealed he has already drawn up areas that he will be willing to have more options and has players in mind already. Some of the players have been sounded out already.
The list includes two midfielders, a new goalkeeper and one left footed defender who we gathered was a former youth international for an European country. Also some players like Nathan Tella who missed out on selection for the AFCON are expected to be part of the team going forward with Peseiro at the helm.
