Two new Beetlejuice Beetlejuice images reveal Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder's return as the titular ghost, Lydia Deetz, and the debut of Jenna Ortega's Astrid. Alongside Keaton and Ryder, Catherine O'Hara is set to reprise her role of stepmother Delia Deetz in Tim Burton's long-awaited horror-comedy sequel to his 1988 movie. Alongside the three returning stars and Ortega, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will also see Willem Dafoe and Monica Belluci debut as characters tackling the obstacles brought by being recently deceased.
With just over six months until Beetlejuice Beetlejuice manifests in theaters, Entertainment Weekly has revealed two new images from the sequel. Check them out below:
In the first image, Keaton's Bio-Exorcist reappears in a dusty, long-abandoned attic potentially belonging to the Deetz's. However, it appears the miniature town has been traded in for a model of the solar system. Meanwhile, Astrid and her mother Lydia stand together with Delia and Justin Theroux's new character Rory on a sunny day in a gloomy graveyard during a funeral, as a hearse is seemingly parked behind them.
How Has The WorldChanged In Beetlejuice Beetlejuice?
There is a 36-year gap between the two movies.
The highly-anticipated sequel is set to revisit Betelgeuse at an interesting point in his life.
While the two new preview images show that Keaton, Ryder, and O'Hara have fit back into their 1988 roles seemingly with ease, over thirty years have passed between the original movie and its sequel. While Ortega's Astrid marks a new addition to the Deetz family, the absence of original Beetlejuice characters Charles (Jeffrey Jones), and Adam and Barbara Maitland (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) may leave viewers assuming Lydia had to say farewell between installments. However, life may have been just as unpredictable for Betelgeuse.
Beetlejuice 2 Update Reveals Tim Burton Is Finally Answering An Afterlife Question We've Been Wondering For 36 Years
An update about Beetlejuice 2's practical effects from Michael Keaton subtly reveals that an unresolved gag from the original movie will get answers. The highly-anticipated sequel is set to revisit Betelgeuse at an interesting point in his life. Belucci has been cast as the wife of the Bio-Exorcist. While it could be assumed that he found love in the recently deceased waiting room, Belucci could also be among the movie's living cast and fell into the same marriage vow trap that Lydia was almost forced into in the Beetlejuice ending, leaving Betelgeuse freed and potentially pursued by Dafoe's undead lawman. Regardless of the circumstances, this major change might allow Keaton's ghost to have a change of heart after a long afterlife.
With over three decades since the 1988 classic haunted theaters, the long-awaited sequel is one of 2024's most anticipated movies. With not only the original movie but a beloved stage musical, animated series, and other surprising cameos in cartoons and video games, Burton and Keaton's vulgar and eccentric ghost has gathered a strong fanbase across generations.
