From Borussia Dortmund to Dan Ashworth
My latest Newcastle United thoughts - From Borussia Dortmund to Dan Ashworth

I was pleased to see Borussia Dortmund reaching the Champions League Final by beating PSG 1-0 again, in the 2nd leg of their semi-final.

PSG didn’t deserve to get out of the ‘Group of Death’ that Newcastle United were a part of.

We pummelled them 4-1 at St James’ Park and were robbed at the Parc de Princes in the last seconds by a dubious decision from the referee and VAR.

Dortmund on the other hand controlled the two games against Eddie Howe’s team.

I don’t think we will have an all German final like we did at Wembley in 2013. On that occasion Dortmund narrowly lost to their great rivals Bayern Munich.

I reckon Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid will finish off Bayern in the second leg of their tie at the Bernabeu. It currently stands at 2-2 from the first leg.

Getting back to domestic football and the meltdown for Manchester United after their 4-0 defeat at Selhurst Park on Monday night.

I actually feel a bit sorry for Palace as they don’t seem to be getting the praise they deserve. It’s all been about how poor ‘Yanited’ were. Bloody hell, most casual observers have been saying that they have been rubbish all season.

I’m glad the Glazers brought their mate Sir Jim Ratcliffe onboard with a minority shareholding. It will prove a masterstroke in keeping the Salford club wallowing in mediocrity for years to come.

It’s went a tad quiet regarding the Dan Ashworth situation, with it reportedly set to go to an arbitration hearing. I personally would like to see Ashworth get out of our club sooner rather than later.

As I’ve said before, I never saw what the big deal was about Ashworth. On his arrival I pointed out that he had been pivotal in England’s appointment of Big Sham Allardyce.

What a shambles that turned out to be.

Dougie Freedman is the latest to be linked with Ashworth’s former role at Newcastle. Unlike his potential predecessor, Freedman was a good footballer and played at a high standard.

The fact that the likes of Olise, Mateta and Eze have been unearthed and polished during Dougie Freedman’s time at Palace, gives him an impressive looking CV.

I’ve now got my focus firmly switched on to Brighton and Hove Albion’s visit to Gallowgate on Saturday.

I’m confident that by the time the woeful Man Utd kick off against Arsenal at Mould Trafford on Sunday, Newcastle United will be five points above them.

We will then head off for our rearranged midweek fixture at the Theatre of Screams.

Then it will be time for The Mag to put up some more pictures of that ‘Dad and Lad’ duo taking selfies of themselves all painted up. I’ve been missing them like a hole in the head.
