Athletes weigh in on most unfairly hated quarterbacks in NFL
Playing quarterback in the NFL comes with plenty of criticism, but we asked an array of athletes at Super Bowl 58 who they think gets the most unfair amount of heat.
Former Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy and former Iowa tight end George Kittle played key roles for the San Francisco 49ers all season long. On Sunday, they played in Super Bowl 58 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The 49ers fell short, losing 25-22 in overtime. Their outstanding season ended in heartbreak as the Chiefs won their second consecutive Super Bowl championship.
Here's a look at how Purdy and Kittle fared in Sunday's game:
Brock Purdy, 49ers quarterback
The former Cyclone played a solid game, completing 23 of 38 passes for 255 yards. He passed for one touchdown and was not intercepted. Purdy also was not sacked. He rushed three times for 12 yards.
George Kittle, 49ers tight end
Kittle's name wasn't called much in Sunday's game after a tremendous season and postseason catching passes. In the Super Bowl, Kittle was mostly a blocker. He was targeted three times, catching two passes totaling four yards. He injured his shoulder during overtime and missed a few plays before quickly returning.
