34% of claims lodged with Centrelink in the Upper Hunter are delayed in being processed.

New figures for the 2023 financial year show the average claim took 34 days to get through the system in Singleton and Muswellbrook Centrelink offices.

This is the third year in a row the figures have blown out.

The federal agency said it has since employed an additional 3000 staff across the country to help process claims and take phone calls.
