2024 Chevrolet Corvette
Expert Opinion: The C8 Chevrolet Corvette wasn't only 8 generations in the making, but also the car that brought mid-engined performance to those without near-limitless funds. For less than $70,000, you can get a thoroughbred mid-engined sports car that can do 60 mph in three seconds flat, and it looks the part too. Even better yet, it does so with a good, old-fashioned, naturally aspirated V8 engine. The C8 Corvette will never give you a lot of cargo room, but it can satisfy your need for performance one day, and serve as your luxurious and exotic daily driver the next.
Pros- Impressive performance
- Affordable pricing
- Easy to drive fast
Cons- Rear visibility
- Interior dashboard design

2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray
The 2024 Chevrolet C8 Corvette E-Ray is the first-ever hybrid version of the American sports car in its history. Additionally, with a 2.5 second to 60 MPH claim makes the Corvette E-ray the quickest Corvette ever. The 5.5-liter V8 in the E-Ray is paired with an electric motor that powers the front wheels, which also makes it the first all-wheel-drive Corvette ever made.
Pros- Impressive hybrid power
- Silent starting Stealth Mode
- 45 Mile pure EV range
Cons- Rear vsibility
- Interior layout
When Chevrolet introduced the eighth generation model of the Corvette sports car in 2020, it was the most revolutionary model since it was conceived in 1953. For the first time in nearly seven decades, the Chevrolet Corvette transformed from the traditional front-engine, to a mid-engine sports car in the form of the C8 Corvette Stingray.
However, the Corvette's transformation was not yet complete. In 2023, the American automaker introduced the C8 E-Ray, the first ever hybrid, all-wheel-drive Corvette, which is also the quickest ever built by the Chevrolet factory.
While both the Stingray and E-Ray use the same engine, we compare both versions of the American sports car to find out how their souls and personalities may be different beneath the surface.

Steven Fereday introduces car enthusiasts to the Fereday Signature Edition C8 Corvette which is more than just a car with bolt-ons.Performance And Capability
Both the 2024 C8 Corvette Stingray and E-Ray use the 5.5-liter LT2 naturally aspirated V8 engine. It is an updated version of GM's small-block LS motors which now use dry-sump lubrication and cylinder deactivation. The dry-sump system allows the engine to be mounted lower in the chassis, which lowers the center of gravity of the car. This helps improve the vehicle's driving dynamics and handling, especially through fast corners.
However, the Corvette E-Ray adds a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor paired with a 1.9 kWh lithium-ion battery that powers the front wheels. Chevrolet claims the Corvette E-Ray can drive in pure EV mode for up to 45 miles, and it has a 'Stealth Mode' function which can start the car silently, which can be useful if you don't want to annoy your neighbors.

As standard, the LT2 V8 in the C8 Corvette Stingray makes 490 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. However, the optional Z51 performance package improves the power and torque output of the engine by 5 hp and 5 lb-ft. The package includes upgrading to performance suspension, 4-piston Brembo brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, performance exhaust, new rear axle ratio, improved cooling system, an electronic limited slip differential, and front and rear spoilers. The C8 Corvette's Z51 performance package costs an additional $6,345.
The same 5.5-liter V8 in the Corvette E-Ray on its own makes 495 hp and 470 lb-ft, identical to the Stingray with the Z51 package. However, the electric motor which powers the front wheels makes 160 hp and 125 lb-ft of torque. That makes a combined output of 655 hp and 595 lb-ft. The Corvette E-Ray's $500 ZER package, however, adds magnetic ride suspension and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

While the Stingray and the E-Ray models have nearly the same 180+ MPH top speed, the Z51 package helps the Stingray sprint from 0-60 MPG in 2.9 seconds. However, the hybrid can do the same in 2.5 seconds, which makes the E-Ray the quickest Corvette ever.
Fuel Economy
In terms of fuel economy, the EPA rates the C8 Corvette Stingray and the E-Ray nearly the same at 19 MPG in combined. While both the Stingray and E-Ray models offer 16 MPG in the city, the Stingray can return 25 MPG on the highway, against the hybrid E-Ray's 24 MPG. However, the Corvette E-Ray can drive up to 45 miles on pure electric power.

Why The Chevrolet C8 Corvette Stingray’s Biggest Flaw Is Also Its Biggest Advantage
Top Gear’s Chris Harris comes away impressed after his first go in the C8 Corvette, except for one thing that actually makes it a great sports car.Interior Design And Technology
The 2024 Corvette Stingray and E-Ray have an identical interior design. Both models offer a two-spoke flat bottom steering wheel, an all-digital driver's gauge cluster, and a cockpit design focused entirely towards the driver. The climate control switches and buttons are stacked vertically in a strip-like fashion on the center console. However, the design makes it difficult to use, and the tall center console isolates the passenger completely from the experience. Getting in and out of the seat can be difficult. However, once seated, the Corvette positions the driver perfectly in place with great outward visibility. However, the rearview is quite obstructed, the high-resolution front and rearview cameras make it easy to reverse and park in tight spaces.
2024 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Vs. 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray Technology Comparison
As standard, the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray features an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The unit is compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 10-speaker Bose sound system is standard. However, higher trim models upgrade the sound system to a 14-speaker unit, and offer the driver a head-up display, heated and ventilated seats and heated steering wheel.
The same 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also standard on the Corvette E-Ray. Like the Stingray, the higher trims of the E-Ray also offer the 14-speaker Bose sound system upgrade, with a head-up display, heated and ventilated seats and heated steering wheel.
Interior Room And Cargo Capacity
Mid-engine sports cars are not renowned for being practical. However, Chevrolet has cleverly packaged the C8 Corvette to offer remarkable trunk space behind the engine, as well as a conveniently sized frunk. Both the Corvette Stingray and the Corvette E-Ray models feature a similarly sized 12.6 cu-ft rear cargo space in the trunk. Despite adding the electric motor and drive assembly in the hybrid Corvette E-Ray, Chevrolet has managed to maintain the practicality of the car by keeping nearly the same sized cargo area at the front of the Corvette. The automaker claims the hybrid E-Ray's frunk compromises only around 1 cu-ft of storage as compared to the Stingray.

2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray: “A New Corvette For A New Age”
The Corvette E-Ray is a step into the unknown for Chevy, but is it the full package?Safety And Reliability
Since the new C8 Corvette Stingray was introduced in 2020, the IIHS and the NHTSA have not crash tested any version of the sports car. That is the reason why neither the 2024 Corvette Stingray nor the hybrid Corvette E-Ray have been rated for safety. But when it comes to safety features, and driver aids, Chevrolet offers an extensive list of equipment to keep the occupants safe and secure. Active and passive safety features and driver aids in all 2024 C8 Corvette models include airbags, auto emergency braking, blind spot monitors, pedestrian detection, lane keep assist and lane departure warning and more.
