Australia weighs up its spinning options ahead of opening Bangladesh ODI

Australia is considering using four spinners in its historic ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Thursday.

The match marks the first time the Australian women's team has played an ODI in Bangladesh.

The world champions are yet to name their XI as they weigh up whether to select four spinners, with Ash Gardner, Sophie Molineux, Georgia Wareham and Grace Harris in their squad.

Molineux has not appeared in an ODI since late 2021, but she is fresh from taking 3-20 in Royal Challengers Bangalore's win in the Women's Premier League (WPL) final in India on Sunday.

Ten members of Australia's 14-strong squad played in the WPL.

Captain Alyssa Healy said the WPL experience would be beneficial against Bangladesh.

"The Delhi wicket in particular was a little bit low and slowish, which doesn't traditionally suit an Australian batting line-up," she said.

"But I think there's enough experience within our group, and enough communication in particular, to make sure we adapt and are still able to score runs when conditions don't quite suit us."

Healy said "a bit of illness" among the tour party had also delayed the naming of Australia's line-up.

Australia will play Bangladesh in three ODIs, all to be played in Dhaka.

The remaining two matches will be played on March 24 and 27.

The two sides will meet in three T20Is, with the first to be played in Dhaka on March 31.
