Tired of trying to keep up with the men in your life who hit the gym hard?

Turns out, you don’t have to.

New studies have revealed that women don’t need to exercise nearly as much as men do in order to reap the same rewards.

Honestly, we couldn’t be more delighted by the news – that’s an excuse to skip that workout this eve and get a takeaway if we ever heard one.

The new study comes from the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

In the study, they found that men who get about 300 minutes of aerobic exercise each week have an 18% lower risk of dying compared to men who are more inactive.

But when it comes to women, it takes only 14o minutes of weekly exercise to see the same result – that’s less than half! Not only that, but the risk of death is 24% lower if women do decide to go for the 300 minutes a week.

The study also shows that (for both genders) benefits in terms of lowering risk of early death tend to plateau after about 300 minutes a week.

This is due to things like women having less muscle mass, so “if they do the same amount of strengthening exercises, they may have greater benefits with smaller doses just based on the fact that they don’t have as much to begin with,” Dr. Martha Gulati tells Time Magazine.

Dr. Martha, who is the co-author of the study, wraps up the research by expressing, “For me, the news to women is: a little goes a long way.”

So, you don’t want to ditch the exercise altogether – it’s proven that the right amount of exercise will greatly improve your quality of life.

But don’t overdo it, okay? You literally don’t have to.

Leave your boyfriend behind and get those feet up!
