Sunday’s election comes after the three-party governing coalition between Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democrats, the Greens and the liberal Free Democrats collapsed in November. 

The campaign has been dominated by the issue of migration after a series of deadly attacks perpetrated by foreign citizens living in Germany.
