WA schools in uproar over controversial ham and cheese toastie ban as part of canteen healthy eating rules

The humble ham and cheese toastie — one of the most popular items on school canteen menus — has been banished to a list of restricted foods under controversial changes to WA’s school food and drink rules.

Under new recommendations dropped on schools in December, ham is one of a raft of food and drink items that have been reclassified in the traffic light system used to colour-code canteen menus.
