Katy, 39, quit American Idol to "launch a new album and go on a world tour", hairstylist Dean Banowetz from the series exclusively revealed to The U.S. Sun.

The show insider confirmed that she "has to have time away from the ABC series because she wants to trek around the world promoting new music."

The award-winning stylist did say that the TV personality could potentially "return to the judges panel in the future."

Though he says "Katy is irreplaceable", he does have an idea of who might step in.

"ABC is considering Miley Cyrus and Pink to replace Katy in 2025," Dean exclusively revealed to The U.S. Sun.

He added that “awesome” Miley would help “change” the series.

Dean broke the news on Sunday at the 11th Make-up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild (MUAHS) Awards in Beverly Hills.

He is currently one of the biggest stylists in reality TV and has worked on Idol since the beginning of the series.

The stylist has also been featured on shows like So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing With The Stars, and America's Got Talent.

Dean continued to say that though Katy "dedicated seven seasons to the show" she now "needs to fulfill her career dreams."

‘She’s so checked out!’ American Idol fans claim as Katy Perry's caught rolling eyes and looks 'so over' her last season

“You have to really think about it. She is a performer and during this entire time, she's really dedicated it to the show and she's had her baby and she's done really awesome things.

“And I hope her album does incredibly well. And I know on her world tour, she's going to do awesome things and it's never really a goodbye.

"It is like, I'll see you later because I'm sure she will have things to do with the show in the future, and so on and so forth.”

When asked if ABC execs will replace Katy, Dean replied, “She's never going to be replaced first and foremost, but I feel like there's a lot of fun, creative artists.

"I mean, Pink would be amazing. Miley of course would be awesome. And Miley's part of the ABC Disney family too, so I wouldn't be surprised. It's kind of an open game. I'm all for it. Bring it on. Change is good.”

Dean noted that while the judges are important in the series, he feels Idol’s success is down to the yearly influx of new fresh talent.

During the MUAHS Awards,  Oscar-nominated actress Annette Bening was honored with the prestigious Distinguished Artisan Award, presented by Ardell.

CALLING IT QUITS

On February 12, 2024, Katy announced she was leaving American Idol after seven seasons.

Following Idol season 22, the Dark Horse singer plans to exit the show to focus on new music, though some fans believe it could be to grow her family.

The pop star and her fiance Orlando Bloom currently share one daughter, Daisy, 3.

While discussing her decision on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Katy explained: "So I think this will probably be my last season for Idol.

"I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I need to feel that pulse of my own beat.

"I love the show so much but I wanna go and see the world and maybe bring new music."

She added, "Well, you know, this fall, this September, I’m going to be doing this huge music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio. It’s really exciting.

"It’s a big deal for people all over the world, especially my Brazilian fans," Katy gushed.

The star concluded, "So it’s going to be a very, very exciting year…for all pop star girlies.

"Maybe I’ll come back if they'll have me one day!"

WHO'S NEXT?

After Katy announced her departure, it wasn't long before ABC already started reportedly scouting for her replacement.

A consultant previously told The U.S. Sun, "They are looking at several options on how to replace Katy."

The source claimed, "Names like Jennifer Lopez and Shania Twain... are in the frame because they have worked on the show before and are 'safe' faces, but there is a push for Miley."

The insider believed Miley's wins at the Grammys and her history of bringing in big bucks for Disney are two driving factors of this push.

"Several producers feel she would be 'perfect' to judge the show and get headlines like Katy," the insider gushed.

The source justified, "She is a younger star with an audience that has grown up with her as Hannah Montana and is a celebrated pop star in her own right."

MAYBE MILEY, MAYBE NOT

But reportedly, the American Idol judge position isn't a clean sweep for Miley.

The insider claimed, "There is 'casting drama' over Miley, not about her talent or career, but her ability to be controversial.

"Some senior figures at ABC have concerns about the risque and open nature of Miley saying or doing something which is not necessarily family-friendly.

"The production team is inclusive and LGBTQ+ friendly, but Miley is very outspoken and always herself," the insider gushed.

"Of course, ABC sees itself as America's family network, so they would not want to bring division to the audience," the anonymous ABC consultant claimed.
