Bizarre rumour: 'Hamilton will move to Ferrari in 2026'
One rumour after another seems to be entering the F1 world. According to Italian media, Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur is interested in bringing Lewis Hamilton to the Maranello-based team in 2025.
After Sebastian Vettel left Ferrari's team, the Italian racing team haven't had a World Champion in their ranks. According to Corriere della Sera, the team now want to sign the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton is said to have already had talks with Ferrari president John Elkann. The switch is said to be announced in the coming days, according to the Italian medium. On X, stories are coming from several F1 journalists that a big announcement is imminent. So this would possibly be one of the options.
When could Hamilton to Ferrari become a reality?
Hamilton's contract still runs until the end of 2025 with his current team Mercedes. But the rumours suggest the second year has an option meaning Hamilton would leave at the conclusion of 2024. The fact that contract talks seem to be going slowly with current Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz foreshadows a possible change in the teams' current line-ups. Indeed, Sainz wants a multi-year contract, and so far, it seems Ferrari only wants to offer him a one-year contract. Charles Leclerc recently signed a new contract with the team from Maranello. Exactly how long this contract runs is unknown, but it is a multi-year deal.
