Margot Robbie Wore a Gloriously Gold Mugler Corset With a Bronze ...
Hours after making an understatedly elegant appearance at the 96th Academy Awards, Margot Robbie put her party pants on—or rather, took them off—for the after-party Sunday night.
Working with stylist Andrew Mukamal, the Barbie star and producer showed up to Vanity Fair’s annual Oscars after-party in a glorious gold corset from Thierry Mugler’s Spring/Summer 1996 collection. The gilded vintage piece was studded with a waterfall of bedazzled jewels and sequins, with the hem lined with beaded fringe.
She covered up the look with a silky bronze robe, which she wore almost like a shawl wrapped around her back and elbows. She eschewed pants completely, instead putting on a leggy display via gold Manolo Blahnik heels with thin crisscrossing ankle straps.
Earlier in the night, Robbie showed up for the Oscars ceremony in a glittery black corseted gown from Versace’s Fall/Winter 2024 ready-to-wear collection. The look was a sophisticated and modern take on the revenge dress (immortalized by Princess Diana), featuring a body-hugging silhouette, a strapless curved neckline, and molten draping details pinned across the waist.
Both looks are a stark departure from Robbie’s Barbie press tour style, which often had the actor re-creating iconic looks previously seen on the popular Mattel doll.
In an interview with People last week, Mukamal explained how he planned out the ambitious wardrobe with Robbie. “I had a board where every city was mapped out. We knew exactly which looks, which Barbies, and which references were archival, and everything was very specific for each destination,” he said. “I had a huge studio in New York filled with everything Barbie and pink and fluffy and glittery that you could ever imagine. Margot and I marathoned through 50 or 60 outfits, and every 30 minutes, one of the brands would come and [help] tailor the outfit that I had been working on for months already.”
