Margot Robbie's Oscars beauty look was less Barbie and more Margot
The inescapable Barbie press tour’s culminating moment came last night at the Oscars, where all eyes were on leading lady Margot Robbie once more. But in contrast to the Mattel doll-inspired wardrobe she’s sported on recent red carpets, the actor opted for a strapless, shimmery gown from Versace’s autumn/winter 2024 ready-to-wear collection, alongside a similarly pared-back beauty look. One that felt much more Margot than Barbie.
“I was inspired to harmonise Margot’s make-up look with her deep, espresso dress,” explained Chanel make-up artist Pati Dubroff, who has been Robbie’s righthand-woman throughout this awards season. She applied the Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in Intemporelle “to complement her beautiful, nude-coloured nails” which were the work of Chanel nail artist Betina Goldstein – who “selected the warm, caramel shade of Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour in Légende” for her impeccable manicure.
The rich brown colour theme didn’t stop there; Dubroff also “created an espresso-coloured ‘kitten liner’ look” to enhance Robbie’s eyes, applying Chanel’s Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Espresso “to frame the lash line” and Le Liner de Chanel Liquid Eyeliner High Precision Longwear in Ultra Brun “directly on top to ensure long wear”. The result, Dubroff said, was “the perfect shade of brown” that lasted all night long.
Robbie’s Oscars hairstyle, by her go-to stylist Bryce Scarlett, was similarly understated, oozing nonchalance, simplicity and chic. Featuring a casual centre-parting, some bed head-esque crown lift and the whisper of a wave, it let Robbie’s "spun with gold" hues – created by celebrity colourist Jacob Schwartz using Schwarzkopf – sparkle alongside her sequin dress.
The sartorial theme continued at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, where Robbie changed outfits into an embellished gold corseted mini dress by Mugler but kept her beauty look consistent. If you want inspiration for the perfect party glam to marry with any warm-toned outfit for spring/summer, hers is it.
