Lakers reportedly made error by blocking Mark Williams trade

The Los Angeles Lakers allegedly made a mistake by blocking the trade for Mark Williams after misjudging his physical status: "Lakers should not have failed Mark Williams on his physical."
The Los Angeles Lakers initially acquired Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams in a trade before the Feb. 6 deadline, but the deal was later rescinded after the 23-year-old big man failed his physical.

Following the reversal, the Hornets engaged in discussions with the NBA, exploring options to challenge the Lakers' assessment. Now, it appears the Lakers may have misjudged the situation.
Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management told ESPN's Shams Charania:
"The overwhelming sentiment, after conferring with multiple, nationally recognized doctors, is that the Los Angeles Lakers should not have failed Mark Williams on his physical," the agent explained.
"Mark was ready and able to play for them and should have been given that opportunity," Schwartz added.

Before the trade, Lakers GM Rob Pelinka had reportedly approved the deal without raising any concerns.
The proposed trade would have sent Williams to Los Angeles, while Charlotte would have received Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, and draft picks.
Williams himself was caught off guard by the decision.
"I didn't think I had failed my physical," he recently said. "That didn't even cross my mind. The night I got traded, I played hella minutes. I didn't think that was possible in any world."
Williams has played 24 games this season, averaging 15.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game.
