There has been a notable rise in measles cases across various regions worldwide. In Canada, the majority of confirmed measles cases have been traced back to individuals who contracted the virus while traveling abroad. Those traveling outside Canada face an elevated risk of measles exposure. To date, however, there have been no recent laboratory-confirmed cases in Manitoba.

Immunization stands as the most effective safeguard against measles and other illnesses. Public health recommends catching up on vaccinations for those who are eligible and have not yet received it. If unsure about your immunization status, you can request your immunization record online.

More information about vaccine awareness and resources at the University of Manitoba is available on the UM Immunization/Vaccine Awareness page.
