New Year’s Day 2022: What’s open, what’s closed? Store hours; will mail run?

New Year’s Day (Jan. 1) falls on a Saturday so many government offices were closed on Friday, Dec. 31 in recognition of the federal holiday. These places are typically closed on Saturday and will remain so Jan. 1.

Other places will remain open on New Year’s Day but may be on different schedules for the holiday. One important closure on New Year’s Day will be the U.S. Post Office. Post offices will be closed Saturday and mail won’t run.

Kroger – Most stores open regular hours, check ahead

Publix – Some stores will close at 7 p.m., others may close at 9 p.m. Check your local store for exact hours.

Sam’s Club - Closed

Target – Open regular hours

Trader Joe’s - Closed

Walgreens – Open but pharmacy hours may vary

Walmart- Regular hours, typically 6 a.m.-11 a.m.

Whole Foods- 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
