All-rounder Annabel Sutherland has been credited for steering Australia back on track after a shaky start in its 118-run ODI win over Bangladesh in Dhaka.

Australia was struggling at 4 for 48 and then 5 for 78 on a slow and turning pitch, but Sutherland's unbeaten 58 from 76 deliveries helped the tourists make 7 for 213 from 50 overs.

Bangladesh failed to fire in its run chase, having been dismissed for a paltry 95, with Ash Gardner taking 3 for 22 from five overs.

Player-of-the-match Alana King, whose 46 not out from 31 balls included five sixes, shared an unbeaten 67-run stand for the eighth wicket alongside Sutherland.

King said Sutherland played a crucial role in reviving Australia's innings.

"Annabel batted really well, along with Beth Mooney (25) and Ash Gardner (32)," King said.

"They set the foundation … it was just a bit of fun in the last over. We were looking at getting over 200 and Annabel gave me free rein.

"We could go for as many runs as possible and I am glad I connected with a few."

Sutherland hit her first Test century batting at number eight for Australia in last year's Ashes series.

She backed that performance up with a double century against South Africa in Perth last month.

Australia plays Bangladesh in the second ODI in Dhaka on Sunday, before the final match takes place next Wednesday.

Following the ODIs, the bilateral series continues with three T20Is.
