Peugeot Confirms E-408 and E-5008, Won't Go Smaller Than The E-208 Supermini

The French automaker will offer electric versions of its entire lineup by the end of 2024, adding ChatGPT integration into the mix

At the second edition of Peugeot’s e-Lion Day, the French automaker pledged to offer a full range of electric vehicles by the end of 2024, with the addition of the E-408 fastback and the E-5008 SUV. Peugeot also announced an 8-year / 160,000 km warranty program for customers of the E-3008 and the integration of ChatGPT technology into its entire passenger and LCV lineup.

Beginning with the new models, the star of the event is undoubtedly the electric iteration of the next-gen 5008, which made its first appearance in an official teaser ahead of its debut later this year. While the SUV is still hidden under a veil of fabric, we catch a glimpse of its distinctive upright rear end and a quite recognizable LED lighting signature.

The E-5008 will be closely related to the E-3008, sharing the same STLA Medium underpinnings. However, its longer body and boxier tail will make room for a three-row seven-seater layout and a larger boot. In addition to the fully electric versions, there will also be ICE-powered alternatives with mild-hybrid powertrains, in line with the rest of the Peugeot family.

Next on the roster is the Peugeot E-408, which has been mentioned several times in the past. The electric version of the fastback will arrive earlier than expected, aligning with Peugeot’s ambitious goal to round out its EV lineup by the close of 2024.

The E-408 and E-5008 will join an existing lineup of 12 electric models comprising 9 passenger vehicles and 3 LCVs. Interestingly, there was also no reference to the midsize 508 and 508 SW, which have yet to receive the EV treatment, despite being facelifted last year. If you’re wondering about a future expansion, Peugeot CEO, Linda Jackson made it crystal clear they won’t offer an EV smaller than the E-208 supermini, putting an end to speculations about a potential successor to the now-discontinued 108.

The e-Lion Day 2024 also included the announcement of the “Peugeot Allure Care” program for owners of the new E-3008. This new warranty covers “all electrical and mechanical elements” of the EV for up to 8 years or 160,000 km (99,419 miles), complementing the battery warranty of the same duration that is already offered by Peugeot.

Following the example of other automakers, Peugeot announced the integration of ChatGPT technology for the entire lineup of passenger vehicles and LCVs starting from the second half of 2024. According to Peugeot, it will will enhance the capabilities of the existing i-Cockpit infotainment, with the voice assistant answering “countless questions and requests on all types of subjects” using the power of artificial intelligence.

Last but not least, the French brand re-confirmed its contributions to the circular economy with a greater use of recycled parts, and its long-term target of net zero carbon emissions by 2038.
