Thousands of Skoda cars are being recalled due to a potential brake fault.

Skoda Superb and Octavia models sold between 2020-2024 are being recalled as the heat shield between the brake master cylinder and the exhaust may have been incorrectly fitted.

As a result, the 3801 affected vehicles could have the connection to the brake fluid reservoir melt.

This could cause brake fluid to leak and drivers might experience a reduction in braking performance, the recall warned.

The leak could also cause a vehicle fire.

'A reduction in braking performance and/or a vehicle fire could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users or bystanders and/or damage property,' the federal Transport Department said in its recall.

Additionally, Volkswagon Group Australia have also warned owners of Cupra Formentor and Leon vehicles built between 2020 and 2022 could have same issue.

These cars could also experience a reduction in braking performance and/or a vehicle fire could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death.

Car owners should visit the federal government’s Vehicle Recalls website to see if their Skoda’s vehicle identification number (VIN) or their Cupra’s VIN is involved in either recall.

Owners should contact a Volkswagen dealership to schedule an appointment, free of charge.
