First-time MLA Rekha Gupta today took oath as the fourth woman chief minister of Delhi, days after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) returned to power in the national capital after over 26 years, ending the 10-year rule of the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The grand ceremony was held at the iconic Ramlila ground and was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of 20 states, and other senior BJP leaders and workers.
PM Modi said Ms Gupta, 50, has risen from the grassroots and expressed confidence that she will work for the city's development with full vigour.
"My best wishes to her for a fruitful tenure," he posted on X after the ceremony.
Rekha Gupta is the fourth woman chief minister of the capital after Sushma Swaraj (BJP), Sheila Dikshit (Congress) and Atishi (AAP). Besides her, six newly elected MLAs -- Parvesh Verma, Kapil Mishra, Ashish Sood, Pankaj Singh, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, and Ravinder Indraj -- also took oath as members of the new Council of Ministers.

Rekha Gupta To Visit Yamuna Around 5 PM Today
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will commence her official duties with a series of key engagements.
At 3:00 PM, she will visit the Delhi Secretariat to formally assume office.
Later in the day, at around 5:00 PM, she will visit the Vasudev Ghat along the Yamuna river.
At around 7:00 PM, she will hold her first Cabinet meeting at Delhi Secretariat.
"She Took Care Of House And Society": Delhi Chief Minister's Mother-In-Law
The mother-in-law of Delhi's new Chief Minister and first-time MLA Rekha Gupta today said she used to take care of both her house as well as society.
"She took care of the entire Shalimar Bagh for two years. She is habitual of working hard... She will handle it all. We are all so happy," Meera Gupta said, referring to her daughter-in-law's assembly constituency.

After taking oath as the Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta said that it is "not just a responsibility but an opportunity to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Delhi".
"Adopting the mantra of Prime Minister, 'Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas', we will empower Delhi through modern infrastructure, excellent healthcare services, excellent education and new employment opportunities," she posted on X in Hindi.

Rekha Gupta Takes Oath: A Look At Delhi Chief Minister's Wealth
According to her affidavit submitted to the Election Commission (EC) before the 2025 Delhi assembly elections, Rekha Gupta has declared her total income as Rs 6,92,050 in the financial year 2023-24.
Her moveable assets were worth Rs 1.25 crore, she said in the affidavit filed on January 15. She also had immovable assets worth Rs 2.3 crore.
The 50-year-old politician has loans worth Rs 48.44 lakh.
Her affidavit showed that she owns two residential properties, one of which is co-owned with her husband, Manish Gupta.
She does not own any vehicle and has jewellery worth Rs 18 lakh.
Mr Gupta's income in the financial year 2023-2024 was Rs 97,33,570. His movable assets are worth Rs 1.14 crore and immovable assets are worth Rs 30 lakh.

Ravinder Indraj Singh is BJP's Dalit leader. He won the Bawana (SC) seat by more than 31,000 votes.

Ashish Sood: The BJP To Be Included In Rekha Gupta's Cabinet
Ashish Sood is a known face in Delhi's Punjabi community. Born on September 2, 1966, Mr Sood, a first-time MLA from Janakpuri, is a senior leader with some hands-on experience in administrative matters gained during BJP's rule in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
He has also been the vice president of BJP's Delhi unit.

Manjinder Singh Sirsa: The Sikh Face In Rekha Gupta's Team
Manjinder Singh Sirsa is the Sikh face of the BJP. He won the 2025 Delhi assembly elections from Rajouri Garden.

Kapil Mishra: Ex-AAP Firebrand Leader Who Is Part Of Rekha Gupta's Cabinet
Kapil Mishra, a former AAP leader, won the Karawal Nagar constituency on a BJP ticket. Born on November 13, 1980, in Delhi, he is the son of Annapurna Mishra, a former East Delhi mayor, and Rameshwar Mishra, a socialist leader. He completed his education at Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College.

He was appointed Delhi's water resources minister in the Arvind Kejriwal-led government. In 2017, he was sacked from the cabinet and joined the BJP in 2019.
He was also accused of making hate speeches during communal riots in Delhi in 2020.
Parvesh Verma: The BJP MLA On Rekha Gupta's New Delhi Team
Parvesh Verma, a two-time BJP MP, defeated AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi seat. Mr Verma is a prominent Jat face in the national capital.
Born on November 7, 1977, he is the son of former Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh Verma. He graduated from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University, and later earned an MBA from the Fore School of Management.

Mr Verma is married to Swati Singh, the daughter of former Union Minister and BJP leader from Madhya Pradesh, Vikram Verma. They have three children.
BJP's Vijender Gupta To Be Delhi Assembly Speaker
BJP's MLA from Rohini Vijender Gupta has been nominated as the party's candidate for the post of Delhi Assembly speaker.
Confirming his nomination by the party, Mr Gupta told the news agency PTI, "I will first of all get the CAG reports that were kept pending by the previous AAP government tabled before the House."

Ms Gupta left the meeting with the top post in her pocket.
This morning, with her oath ceremony in a few hours, a delighted Ms Gupta told NDTV, "When I left home, I did not know that I would become the Chief Minister".
More interestingly, Ms Gupta said 'giant-killer' Parvesh Verma - who defeated Arvind Kejriwal to win the New Delhi seat and who was widely seen as a shoo-in for the top post - had proposed her name.
