A frustrating draw

Wrexham welcomed another big celebrity to the STōK Cae Ras on Saturday afternoon but couldn’t come up with a win against Cambridge United.

Wrexham were looking for yet another home win as Cambridge United visited the STōK Cae Ras on Saturday afternoon.

Phil Parkinson’s home record is incredible with Wrexham racking up 200 points under him in home games.

Wrexham had dropped just two points at home heading into Saturday’s clash but this proved to be a frustrating afternoon.

Cambridge took the lead as exceptional wing play from Shayne Lavery set up an Elias Kachunga opener before James McClean impressed Wrexham fans with a superb equaliser.

Ollie Rathbone’s tenacity teed up Steven Fletcher to fire Wrexham ahead, only for a late twist in the tale.

Lewis Brunt hauled down Sullay Kaikai for a late penalty and Dan Nlundulu stepped up to salvage a point for the visitors.

Wrexham had little time to find a winner and had to settle for a point after an off-colour performance from Parkinson’s side.

MORE WREXHAM STORIES

There was a buzz around the STōK Cae Ras on Saturday afternoon as Ryan Reynolds arrived in town with a couple of celebrities alongside him.

Fellow actor Channing Tatum and Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong were the surprise guests as Wrexham suffered a frustrating afternoon.

Tatum and Armstrong would have loved to experience a victory at the STōK Cae Ras but it just wasn’t to be on the day.

Rob McElhenney was not in attendance but he sent a message to Tatum and Armstrong after the final whistle on Saturday.

McElhenney apologised to both as they weren’t able to celebrate a victory on their trip to North Wales.

The ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ star added a passionate rallying cry by saying that Wrexham ‘always get up and go again’.

McElhenney immediately turned his attention to next Saturday with Wrexham on the road at Bristol Rovers with Tatum and Reynolds posing together after the draw.

Successful 2024 coming to an end for Wrexham

Wrexham now have just three games left to play in 2024.

Parkinson takes his side down to take on Bristol Rovers with Wrexham fans no doubt relishing a final big journey before 2025 begins.

Wrexham then have another two home games to end the year, starting with Blackpool on deadline day.

Wigan Athletic will then visit the STōK Cae Ras, bringing the curtain down on another successful year for Wrexham.

Wrexham won promotion from League Two back in April and have made a strong start to life in League One.

Parkinson now has Wrexham challenging at the top end of League One and whilst Saturday’s result was a disappointment, Wrexham will look for a few more big results and finish 2024 in the top three of the League One table.
