CES 2022: Samsung Launching Smart Guitar With Light-Up Fretboard

For everyone that has ever put learning guitar in the “too hard” basket, Samsung are taking away any excuses with the ZamStar smart guitar system, which features the ZamString electric guitar with a fretboard with LED lights to show you where to put your fingers.

This isn’t exactly a new concept, but when teamed with the dedicated app it becomes part of what is being described as an “all-integrated smart guitar and online jamming platform not only for skilled musicians but also beginners.”

Put simply, the system will let you jam with other ZamStar users.

“We’re working to make it easier for people to share and empathise with music inspiration,” one designer says.

As the narrator on a video on the ZamStar site says, “The key problem is that it takes too long to practice music skills and becomes easier to lose interest while playing alone. The smart guitar ZamString and online jamming platform ZamStar can solve this problem.”

The video shows how you can stack new musical parts on top of others, as if in a recording studio. While the light-up keyboard on the Telecaster-style guitar should make it easy to get a wealth of chords and scales down pat for when you’re ready to head out onto the stage.
