According to NBA insider Shams Charania on Monday morning, the Warriors are signing Armstrong, 23, who has been tearing it up with the NBL’s Cairns Taipans, to a two-way contract.

Once official, the Tasmanian-bred Armstrong will have become the state’s first NBA talent.

In 19 games this season, the 6-foot-6 point guard averaged 17.1 points on 46 per cent shooting, 4.7 assists and 4.6 rebounds in 29.8 minutes per game.

Golden State has an open two-way roster spot alongside Pat Spencer and Jackson Rowe after promoting Quinten Post to its 15-man roster earlier in February, meaning no corresponding move will be necessary to accommodate Armstrong’s arrival in the Bay.

This year represented the Burnie product’s second season with the Taipans, impressing many in his short time at the level, and he will now prepare to train and play with the likes of future Hall of Famer Stephen Curry, All-NBA forward Jimmy Butler, and four-time NBA champion Draymond Green.

In 23 games for the Snakes last season, Armstrong averaged 7.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.

It comes after the 196-centimetre prospect played for two seasons at the American collegiate level with Division I outfit California Baptist University, averaging 10.9 points, 5.6 assists and 4.8 rebounds as a solid developmental facilitator.

Armstrong broke the single-game assists record in December 2021, recording 15 against North Dakota.
