'Freakish': Lomax's Benji-like flick pass stuns legends

Freakish Lomaxs Benjilike flick pass stuns legends
'Why is he going anywhere?'

League legend Brad Fittler has expressed his disbelief at why Zac Lomax is leaving the Dragons after his "freakish" try assist against the Knights.

Lomax produced a moment that had to be seen to be believed when he threw a no-look 10-metre flick pass to Ben Hunt who scored.

Hunt's four-pointer put the Dragons in front 10-6 during the first half, however, the sensational moment was to no avail with the Knights eventually running away with a 30-10 victory.

With rain coming down heavily at McDonald Jones Stadium, the Knights scored first through recalled half Jackson Hastings.

Lomax then scored in the 13th minute before he produced his insane moment eight minutes later to put the Dragons in front.

"What have we just seen?," commentator Mat Thompson said on Nine.

"That was freakish," Andrew Johns added.

Lomax will leave the Dragons at the end of the year after the club accepted his release request due to his unhappiness at playing on the wing.

However, Fittler can't believe it after he's started the season as one of the form players in the competition.

"Why is he going anywhere? He's never played better," he said.

Newcastle wrestled back a 24-10 lead at half-time with tries to Enari Tuala, Daniel Saifiti and Dylan Lucas.

Despite the Knights' lead, league icon Phil Gould was still raving about the pass at the break while expressing his frustration with the Dragons defence.

"This goes into the Benji Marshall class of freak passes," he said.

"I thought the next 20 minutes from the Dragons was pretty disappointing."

The rain didn't stop in the second half, with coach Shane Flanagan pulling a shock switch with Lomax shifted to the fullback and Tyrell Sloan on the wing.

It didn't make too much of a difference, with the Knights scoring one more try through Kalyn Ponga in the 73rd minute to wrap up a 30-10 win.
