AFL round five: Geelong defeat North Melbourne, West Coast beat Richmond

AFL round five Geelong defeat North Melbourne West Coast beat Richmond
The West Coast Eagles have their first win of the AFL season, defeating Richmond by 39 points in front of more than 47,000 fans.

The West Coast Eagles are off and running in 2024 after a commanding win over Richmond.

Today's clash always loomed as a golden opportunity for Adam Simpson's side given how undermanned the Tigers are at the moment, and they took full advantage.

It looked like it could be another long day for the Eagles early on when Richmond stormed out of the gates with the first four goals of the match.

But West Coast gathered itself and ended up running out comfortable winners.

The win was spearheaded by the midfield trio of Elliot Yeo, Tim Kelly and Harley Reid, who was outstanding once again.

Forward Jake Waterman also had a match to remember, booting six goals against a young Richmond defence.

Mykelti Lefau was a bright spot for the Tigers up front, booting three majors.
